Henrik from Henrik Travel has been to 224 countries and territories over the last 8 years, and at the mere age of 25 years old looks set to break some world records by 2015. We managed to catch up with him between countries!
Firstly, I would like to say congratulations on visiting 224 countries and territories at the young age of 25! When did you first decide you wanted to travel?
It might have been when I was 12 or 13 and I watched the movie “The Beach”.
Do you regret spending too much or too little time in any country?
No. Maybe 5 weeks in Mauritius is too much, but it is an awesome place. I definitely don’t regret my two months in the Maldives which is one of my all time favourites. 25 Hours in Kabul is not much, but it is a dangerous place.
What’s the most cunning scam you’ve ever witnessed?
There are so many taxi scams everywhere, I avoid taxis whenever I can. I go with public transport, hotel cars or a trustful tour operator if I can.
Which culture has the nicest people?
Some South East Asian countries, a few pacific islands and a few countries in Africa. If I can only pick one I will pick Thailand.
How do you convert your money from country to country?
I bring dollars, euros and pounds for exchanging on the road. It’s important to know the exact exchange rates so as not to get ripped off.
What is the most expensive item you’ve bought in the last 12 months?
I haven’t bought anything in the last 12 months. I have almost no money as I’ve travelled every day for almost 4 years with little income. Canon sponsored me a great camera though.
Imagine somebody reading this interview, sat at their desk on their lunch hour, daydreaming of becoming nomadic. What would your advice be?
If you have money, things will be easy and amazing. If you don’t have money you will have to sacrifice a lot and work hard for it to work.
What is your favourite quote?
There are many memorable quotes. I like all the quotes telling you to be yourself, don’t care too much about what people think about you and follow your dreams.
How do you contact possible sponsors, or how do they contact you?
Both. I usually contact them by email.
Finally, who is your hero, and why?
I don’t have any heroes, but I admire a lot of people. If I had to pick one, it would be Leonardo DiCpario for his incredible acting, career choices and care for the environment.
Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, and happy travels!
